A former teacher, neighbor and schoolmates fondly remember Andrea Rebello, who was inseparable from her twin sister, Jessica. Andrea was shot and killed on Friday morning after a burglar broke into her home and officers opened fire on the house.
She was a bright kid with a brighter smile, a hardworking and friendly young woman with endless potential.
Andrea Rebello, 21, was remembered fondly Friday around her Long Island campus and Westchester County hometown, where she and identical twin Jessica typically traveled in tandem.
“She was a smart, beautiful girl,” recalled Carol Conklin-Spillane, principal at Sleepy Hollow High School, from which the twins graduated in 2010.
The slain Hofstra student’s former English teacher wept in class as news of her death spread throughout the small school.
Andrea Rebello was shot and killed Friday at her home near Hofrstra University on Long Island.
Andrea and Jessica were best buds throughout their time at the school, just north of their home in Tarrytown. Andrea was a member of the English Honor Society and performed community service.
“She was a really sweet girl,” said a Sleepy Hollow senior who knew the twins. “Her and her sister were pretty much inseparable.”
At Hofstra, Andrea pledged the sorority Beta Sigma Pi, while majoring in public relations and pursuing a sociology minor.
Neighbor Harris Bank, 70, remembered her as a happy-go-lucky kid. “She liked to have a lot of fun,” said the Tarrytown resident.
